A thriving cosmopolitan coastal city renowned for innovation and invention
Gothenburg is an old harbour city. Founded almost 400 years ago the city blends a distinct feeling of charm with the pulse of modern urban life. Next-door you’ll find the Liseberg Amusement Park – the biggest visitor’s attraction in Scandinavia and in less than 30 minutes from the downtown area you’ll be on a ferry to explore the tranquil archipelago. The city is filled with flourishing gardens, historic sites and buildings, beautiful churches and magnificent museums e.g. the Museum of Art with three stars in the Michelin Green Guide Scandinavia. The tram-rattled streets are lined with cosy cafés and restaurants – seven are even presented with a Guide Michelin star.
Early summer is a beautiful time for a visit. It never gets really dark and wildflowers line the roads and fill the fields. One of the most beloved Swedish traditions – Midsummer – is celebrated in June.
