The increase in the number of passing a vehicle on a road causes the surface damage and interior of asphalt roads. Damage from the surface causes severe due to salt infiltration inside the road pavement layer. In order to diagnose the surface condition of the road pavement layer, features of defects occurred on the road surface were extracted using laser vision image pattern recognition technique. The damaged pavement condition is studied by the use of defect edge pattern analysis. The experiment is carried out not only indoor with the artificial damage specimen also real damaged public road. We could find the defects on the road surface through image analysis and developed an algorithm that can analyze the shape of defects at high driving speed and diagnose the degree of damage. This technique can be applied to the automatic inspection of road surface damage which is recently receiving attention.
