The technology of Contact Laser-Ultrasonic Evaluation (CLUE) for testing of clamping joint failure is discussed. Specially designed laser-ultrasonic transducers are described. A series of clamping joint with the diameter of 3 mm and 4 mm and different types of riveting was tested. Specific features of clamping joint failure manifestation in ultrasonic signal is presented. The limit of distinct failure is as small as 0.1 mm2.
