Using Monte Carlo method for modelling image formation in computed radiography imaging plates

This work presents a methodology for image formation in computed radiography imaging plates using the Monte Carlo N particle (MCNP) code. A BaFBr imaging plate including a polymer overcoat layer, a phosphor layer and a polycarbonate backing layer with thicknesses of 12, 300 and 300 µm was simulated. To model image formation in image plate, absorbed dose was calculated inside the image plate using the mesh tally type 3. An experiment was also conducted to benchmark the proposed method. The results show that image formation in proposed method is in good agreement with the experiment.
